Peru Strengthens Application of Bivalent Vaccine after Arrival of EG.5 Variant of COVID-19

The Peruvian Minister of Health, Cesar Vasquez, announced that in the coming days they will strengthen the application of the bivalent vaccine against the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after the first two cases of the EG.5 (Eris) variant were confirmed in the country.
"We have issued a directive in the Ministry of Health (Minsa), which in the coming days should be officialized at the national level, (so that) only bivalent (vaccines) are used," said the Peruvian head in statements to the state-owned TV Peru.
According to him, the bivalent vaccine "is the vaccine that best protects against this type of new variants".
At the moment, he said, the country has "enough of these vaccines" to protect the whole population, especially vulnerable groups and people who have not yet been vaccinated against the new coronavirus.
