Archive shots: Massive landing of migrants on the Italian island of Lampedusa, Italy

Several days of massive arrivals of migrants in Lampedusa led local authorities to decree a state of emergency.
Some 7,000 people saturated the reception center this Wednesday, with capacity for 400. Only in the last few hours there was a lull in arrivals and now there are 4,457 migrants present in that structure after the latest transfers to other Italian towns carried out by the authorities, according to local media.
Yesterday, 2,154 migrants arrived in Lampedusa in 51 boats, adding to the record reached on Tuesday, with 5,112 in 110 boats, and the nearly 2,800 that had arrived on Monday, in 70 boats, creating a very complicated situation to manage.
