Calling the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games a "historic journey" for Palestinian athletes, a senior Palestinian official said the Palestinian participation in the multi-sport international event is a happy moment.

"We, as Palestinians and athletes, are happy in this historic journey. Sport plays an important role in uniting the Palestinian people. Palestinian athletes from the West Bank, Jerusalem or Gaza, all belong to the same Olympic committee. China and Palestine have established extremely good relations in the field of sport. I have visited China many times for various tasks. During this visit I will lead the Palestinian delegation to participate in the Asian Games. China is the only country in the world that provided Palestine with about 200,000 square meters of artificial turf, which has brought smiles to Palestinians in communities.
We are heading to China and we love China and its people. We have already played more than one friendly match with China's national teams, and the Palestinian participation in the Asian Games is a happy moment. We will present the largest number of players, technicians, and administrators in our history through a Chinese platform that is friendly to us and supports our issue. We love Chinese people."
The 19th Asian Games will take place from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8 in Hangzhou, China's Zhejiang Province, and will see over 12,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions across Asia take part in.
