The United States offered a reward of $5 million in exchange for information that would allow the arrest or conviction of those responsible for the murder of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernardo Villavicencio, as announced this Thursday by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Villavicencio, a former legislator and journalist who defended the fight against corruption, was shot dead by several hitmen at the end of a political rally of the Movimiento Construye party in Quito on August 9, less than two weeks before the presidential elections in Ecuador.

Ecuadorian police arrested six suspects who they say are all Colombians belonging to criminal groups. However, the investigation - supported by the FBI - continues to seek to identify others involved.

SHOTLIST
1. Several of Villavicencio during a conversation at the ECOTEC Technological University (June 7, 2023)
2. Several of Villavicencio in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas (July 4, 2023)
3. Several of Fernando Villavicencio in Milagro (November 9, 2020)
