STORYLINE:

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the highway connecting Bome to Medog in China's Xizang Autonomous Region

Before the opening of the highway, Medog residents had to rely on mountain trails, ziptreks, and wooden and rattan bridges

Supplies, ranging from grain to medicine and textbooks, had to be transported to the county through human labor and by horseback

The highway, which opened in 2013, brought many changes to the county

Bananas, lemons, and other fruits produced in Medog could find markets far and wide

The once-remote mountain county has also evolved into a thriving tourist destination, receiving about 348,000 tourists in first 9 months of this year

According to official data, the local GDP increased from 260 million yuan (35.6 mln USD) in 2012 to 790 million yuan (108 mln USD) in 2022
