With the escalation of fighting in the Gaza Strip, tens of thousands of Palestinians had no choice but to flee from the north to the south of the Gaza.
Schools and hospitals accommodating the displaced residents are also on the verge of breakdown as they are facing dire need of basic medical supplies and daily necessities.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): SABRIN ABU GARAD, Volunteer nurse
"There is a lack of anything needed for health care, especially medical tools, which has brought us many problems. The situation is very difficult because most of the children here suffer from intestinal infections, which have spread like an epidemic. Symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and vomiting often afflict them. We suffer from a lack of syringes to treat them."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): Doctor
"I have kept working in the hospital for 25 days and haven't been home yet. We are trying hard to help our people, but the treatment capabilities here are very weak."
To relieve the trauma of witnessing the bombings and destructions, doctors organized drawing activities for displaced children.
SOUNDBITE 3 (Arabic): REHAM ABU ROKBA, Psychiatrist
"We hold activities for children to relieve them from psychological traumas, because they have been traumatized as most of them were pulled out from the rubble and saw body parts, dead people, and injured people, so their psychological situation is very bad."
SOUNDBITE 4 (Arabic): DINA MOHAMED, Displaced child
"We were displaced from our home here due to the bombing. The doctors wanted to comfort us, and I drew a butterfly because I wanted to be free like it. Every day, I see bombings, the dead and injured people. I saw my house destroyed."
