Earthquake hits wedding ceremony as couple walk down the aisle
This is the dramatic moment a powerful earthquake hit a wedding ceremony as a couple were walking down the aisle.
Bride and groom Jack and Kareen were walking to the altar when the magnitude 6.8 tremor struck the beach venue in Glan, Sarangani province in the Philippines, on November 17.
Footage shows guests and staff screaming as the quake shook the idyllic resort, with the force of the shaking knocking down some of the visitors. Large waves were also seen roaring toward the coast shortly after.
The wedding was temporarily suspended, but was resumed after 30 minutes.
Bridesmaid Chyn Chyn said: 'Everyone is physically okay, but it was a bit scary for us. Surprisingly, the wedding continued after the shaking stopped, showing how tough everyone was in that unexpected moment.'
Philippine seismology agency PHIVOLCS said in a bulletin that the magnitude 6.8 tremor struck at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles) at 4:14 pm local time. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no tsunami was expected.
Damage and aftershocks can be expected from the offshore quake, PHIVOLCS said. Intensity 8 was felt in the southern Philippines provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato while Intensity 5 was felt in Davao del Sur, it added.
The Office of Civil Defense said that at least nine people were killed and 1,500 people affected by the earthquake as of Monday, November 20.
The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
