STORYLINE:

French director Luc Besson has said he would love to participate in the cultural exchanges between China and his country.

He made the remarks as his latest work Dogman premiered in Shanghai, a city he first visited about 25 years ago.  

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): LUC BESSON, French director
"I came to Shanghai, I don't even remember, like 25 years ago and I love Shanghai. The last time I came was like four or five years ago. I'm impressed by the progress of the pollution control, because the effort that the people in Shanghai they did. They have a lot of electric cars."

The thriller film is about how a tormented young man, who was abused by his father as a child, found salvation through the love of his dogs. 

Its screening in China offered a chance for the director to engage in person with his Chinese partners and fans.

"It's funny around the world. The directors, when they met, doesn't matter if they're Chinese or German or French, but directors are always very friendly to each other. So almost every time I met a director, it is always we became friends very easily."

2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France.

Besson said he is looking forward to the cultural exchanges between the two countries.
