Drunk Driver Crashes into Police Car on New Year’s Day in Pepper Pike, USA
This footage was filmed and produced 1 January 2024.
In an unexpected turn of events on New Year's Day, Pepper Pike police responded to an accident on I-271 North, documented by body camera footage. Approximately 20 minutes later, while a tow truck loaded the disabled vehicle, a car collided with two police cruisers.
The video reveals that 28-year-old Nicholos Reid of Maple Heights lost control in the express lanes, crossed the median, and struck two police cruisers before hitting the disabled vehicle. Dash camera footage from the cruisers captured the impactful moment. Reid was promptly arrested for OVI, failure to control, driving under suspension, and additional charges, with officers discovering a handgun in his possession.
Fortunately, all officers and the tow truck driver emerged unharmed. The incident unfolded just a day before the Ohio State Highway Patrol released their annual New Year's holiday report, citing six fatal crashes, 272 OVI arrests, 106 distracted driving cases, and 409 safety belt citations over the four-day reporting period.
