A highway leading into Grindavik, southwestern Iceland, has been engulfed by lava and work is underway to reconstruct power lines.

Drone footage shows the huge mounds of molten rock from eruptions earlier in January blocking the highway.

Work has begun to reconstruct power lines and pipelines to help reconnect residents to the energy and water grid.

"It's unsure if people can move back, ever, since this is a major event," said the filmer.

The energy company HS Orka is fixing the infrastructure in Grindavik and placing new power-lines into the town, above the lava that flowed over the highway on January 14th. Hot and cold water pipelines are also being fixed since the town lost all connection to the energy and water grid during the eruption. The toen remains closed and it's unsure if people can move back, ever, since this is a major event.
