An artist crafted a bamboo figure that cast a stunningly realistic shadow.

The third-year fine arts student Thanin Jaiboon twisted the bamboo strips at the right angles to form images using light in Maha Sarakham University province, Thailand.

Footage shows Thanin adding threads to his pile of sticks and fixing it in front of the spotlight to show the figure of an elderly woman who looked like she was smiling as she weaved a basket.

He called the work ‘Khitthod' which the artist said meant ‘I miss you, I miss my home, I miss my family.'

He said: 'That piece was an experiment with techniques in the art that I like to develop further in my studies. I used light from a bulb to shine on the material to create shadows on the wall.'

Shadow painting focuses on capturing creatively rendered depictions of shadows on canvas. The shadows themselves form shapes, silhouettes, objects and scenery.
