A Chinese costume show was held at St. Mark's Square in Venice on Feb 13, as a major event of the Venice Carnival 2024.

The parade showcased various traditional Chinese attires from Suzhou Silk Museum.

MA XIAOHUI, Director of Chinese side, Confucius Institute at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, said: "The traditional Chinese costumes showcased here were shipped from the Suzhou Silk Museum. This year marks the 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo. This Venetian merchant and traveler went to China more than seven centuries ago along the ancient Silk Road. Today we're presenting these traditional Chinese silk costumes to the audience here, hoping that they will create a memorable experience for everyone present. We also hope for boosting cultural exchanges between the East and West by showcasing costumes like these."

CHANTAL, a volunteer for the show, said: "I am so happy to participate today and I've decided to dress up as a Chinese wedding empress, because I wanted a direct approach to this beautiful Chinese culture. And since I studied Chinese, I want to get to know the culture better because it's so interesting and there are so many things to learn about, and I hope that this is one of my first approaches to this beautiful culture and kind of lifestyle, and incredible history of dresses."
