Farmers are using kites to counter drones carrying teargas at protests at the Punjab-Haryana border in northern India.

Thousands of farmers travelling on tractors and trucks carrying food and supplies are attempting to make it to Delhi over assured prices for their crops.

Police have stopped many of the farmers travelling from Punjab into Haryana at the Shambhu border.

Security forces fired tear gas at protesting farmers for a second day on Wednesday to stop tens of thousands from marching to the capital New Delhi as they demanded higher prices for their produce.

Hundreds of farmers, travelling on trucks and trolleys loaded with food, bedding and other supplies, began marching towards Delhi on Tuesday morning after talks between their unions and the government failed to yield a commitment regarding minimum prices for a range of crops.

The protesters were stopped by security forces at the Shambhu border that divides Punjab and Haryana - the northern states to which most of the protesters belong - almost 200 km (125 miles) from their destination.

The farmers protesting at the Shambhu border have adopted a unique tactic of flying kites to counter police drones dropping tear gas shells.

The Haryana Police's use of drones to deter the farmers from entering the state and heading towards Delhi has led to clashes, with tear gas and water cannons being used. Meanwhile, Punjab authorities have objected to the use of drones in their territory. The farmers continue their 'Delhi Chalo' protest, demanding MSP laws and other concessions, despite calls for dialogue from Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda.
