STORYLINE: 

Mohammed al-Yazji, a 13-year-old Palestinian boy, lives in a small tent in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip.

He is responsible for taking care of his six siblings, including his six-month-old sister Toleen, after losing their parents several months ago.

Al-Yazji and his siblings have been displaced several times since the Hamas-Israeli conflict erupted in October 2023.

"We were evacuated to Rafah, and at that time my brothers and I slept on the streets, but then I discovered the Qatari Hospital and stayed there, but because of the sewage issues, I was not able to live there for more than 10 days. After that, we moved to this tent where we have been living, before we can find another shelter.
Once the war ends, I will return to my hometown in Gaza and build a tent to live in it. Every day I dream of meeting my father and grandfather. I hope to encourage my brothers to study and become teachers and doctors."

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said about 17,000 children in the Gaza Strip are unaccompanied or separated from their families around four months after the start of the war.

The number accounts for around 1 percent of the total number of displaced people in the Strip.
