A New Wing has opened at a nationally important aviation museum in Kent, UK (February 27).

Eastchurch Aviation Museum on the Isle of Sheppey has doubled its capacity with the opening of its new wing, which has recently been completed thanks to donations and the extensive efforts of the museum's volunteers.

Sheppey is known as the cradle and birthplace of British Aviation. It's where the very first flight by an Englishman from British soil, JTC Moore-Brabzon occurred winning Daily Mail's £1,000-prize for a mile-long flight. It's also where the world's first aircraft factory operated by the Short Brothers was situated.

The new wing features an impressive model of the Gordon Bennett air race held at Sheppey, which attracted 10,000 spectators back in 1911 and also includes a new AV room and gift shop.

The museum is unusually located within Standford Hill prison - but is open to the public four days a week.

Footage shows the new wing and Gordon Bennett model, followed by brief footage of the original wing filmed this morning (February 27).
