"Death toll in Gaza has surpassed 30,000 on Thursday. Israel's military actions are continuing in Gaza, aiming to destroy Hamas and rescue over 100 hostages being held. The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) announced on Thursday morning that over the past day, it conducted airstrikes in the southern Gazan city of Khan Yunis, while ground operations were launched in central and northern Gaza to destroy tunnel shafts and other infrastructures.
In addition, Israel has vowed to attack the city of Rafah in southern Gaza. The plan of ground invasion was presented to Israeli war cabinet earlier this week together with an evacuation plan for over one million civilians seeking shelter in the city. In Israel, thousands of people have been gathering and protesting in major cities every Saturday night, urging the government to take the responsibility of the conflict and reach a ceasefire agreement."
The Israeli army fired at a crowd of people waiting for humanitarian aid in northern Gaza on Thursday, killing at least 104 people.
Meanwhile, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Thursday warned of an impending famine in Gaza.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): AYMAN SHAHIN, Resident in Gaza
"Humanitarian aid can barely reach the camp here (in Deir el-Balah), which is very limited and not enough for our children and women.
There is no food, no drink, no security, no safety, and no shelter. Nothing exists here."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): NAGUIB ABU KHALED, Resident in Gaza
"The northern Gaza is experiencing famine, and we are also on the verge of such a disaster as well.
No one here gets enough food they need, and famine is approaching. People cannot find any means to live."
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization issued a report on Thursday, saying that as of Feb. 7, the entire 2.2 million population in Gaza are facing high levels of acute food insecurity.
