Murder investigation has been launched after a woman was killed and a second left fighting for her life.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after one woman found dead and another battling life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were spotted on the residential road in Worcester on Saturday night, with ambulance crews, police and a critical care team in attendance.

One woman aged 58 is reported to have died and a second woman, 39, was left with severe injuries following the incident which occurred at 8.30pm.

One witness said they saw a person being treated on the ground before being taken away in an ambulance.

Detective Chief Inspector Leighton Harding of the Murder Investigation Unit said: "I understand that incidents of this nature can be alarming, but I would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public."

"You will notice a higher police presence in the area in the coming days as officers investigate this incident."

"Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has sadly lost her life."
