U.S. troops deliver aid to Gaza while 'selling arms to Israel'
U.S. troops delivered aid to war-torn Gaza in a publicity shoot this week - while details emerged of the country's 'extraordinarily high' arms sales to Israel.
Footage shows soldiers preparing and dispatching the goods from an undisclosed location within the U.S. Central Command area on March 11.
The humanitarian effort comes as it was revealed that top U.S. officials have approved more than 100 foreign military sales of lethal munitions to Israel since the war began last October.
The haul - worth billions of dollars - includes thousands of precision-guided munitions, small-diameter bombs, bunker busters, small arms and other lethal aid, U.S. officials told members of Congress in a recent classified briefing.
Jeremy Konyndyk, a former senior Biden administration official and current president of Refugees International told the Wall Street Journal the sales were vast.
He said: 'That's an extraordinary number of sales over the course of a pretty short amount of time, which really strongly suggests that the Israeli campaign would not be sustainable without this level of U.S. support.'
The Gaza Strip has been blitzed by Israel in retaliation for an attack by the governing party Hamas on a Jewish music festival on 7 October last year.
However, the situation - which Israel claims is self-defence - has attracted criticism from around the world.
Craig Mokhiber, a director at the United Nations, has resigned over the organization's 'failure' to act against what he called a 'text-book case of genocide' by Israel against Gaza.
