A woman battling infertility and undergoing an operation to fall pregnant had the procedure suddenly halted by medics - who told her she was expecting.

Morgan Allen, 28, and her husband, Kyle, 33, a business owner, had tried to conceive for a year when she decided to undergo a laparoscopy in July 2020.

The surgery was due to remove endometriosis - tissue similar to the lining of the womb growing in other places such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes - that Morgan had been diagnosed with years earlier.

But as she was getting ready to head into theatre, her doctor sprinted into the room and told the nurses to stop prepping her.

The doctor said pre-surgery tests revealed Morgan had fallen pregnant naturally and didn't need to go through with the procedure after all.

Delighted Morgan said she was emotional but "tried to hold it together"."

Nurses bought balloons from the shop downstairs to celebrate and Morgan broke the news to dad-to-be Kyle from her hospital bed.

Morgan's pregnancy went well and she gave birth to daughter, Lani, now three, on March 11, 2021, at 9.58pm, weighing 5lbs 14oz.

Just 16 months later, she fell pregnant with another daughter - Remi, one - who was born on February 16, 2023, at 10.26pm, weighing 9lbs.

Morgan, a photographer, from Detroit, Michigan, US, said: "The surgeon came in and told the nurses to stop prepping me."

"He told me that scans showed I was pregnant."

"I was in complete shock - it was the only month I had not been tracking to see if we were pregnant."

"It was a high risk pregnancy, it brought on a lot of worry but we were very excited - it required a lot of doctors appointments. "

"When I held Lani for the first time it was really incredible."

"I was speechless - it felt like everything was all worth it."

"I felt like we were finally a family."

"It was such a positive feeling."

"We were definitely nervous as we were new parents but we were very excited."

Kyle said: "I am over the moon, I love it."

"I love being a girl dad, we have waited for this moment for so long."

Morgan was diagnosed with Graves' disease -

an autoimmune disorder that can cause hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid - in 2018.

She was then told she had endometriosis - a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.

Doctors told Morgan she would only be able to have children naturally if she kept her condition under control.

In July 2020, Morgan went in for a laparoscopy - a procedure used to check a woman's pelvic organs.

Morgan said: "When the surgeon came in it was like an out-of-body experience."

"They said they would need to confirm with a blood work but the results again showed I was expecting."

When the test results confirmed Morgan was expecting, the nursing team went to the shop downstairs and got some balloons so that she could tell Kyle.

"They made it such a special way for me to tell him," Morgan said."

Due to her condition, the pregnancy was deemed high risk and Morgan visited the doctors every three days.

She said: "It was so high risk."

"When you have Graves' disease it does cause growth restriction and our daughter ended up developing that - she was very small."

"She had a circumvallate placenta - an abnormality of the placenta - and high blood pressure."

Morgan added: "Lani was born naturally at 37 weeks but I was induced due to my high blood pressure."

"We were kept in there for a week so doctors could watch over her."

"It felt like we were the family we always wanted to be. When I held her in my arms it was such an emotional moment."

"It felt really good to bring her home."

"Lani is extremely funny and outgoing, she has such a big heart and she is extremely smart."

Eight months later, Morgan went in again for a successful laparoscopy in November 2021 and fell pregnant again months later in June 2022

Her second daughter, Remi, was born in February 2023.

Morgan said: "The pregnancy was a healthy one - she was a giant baby and very healthy."

"Remi has such a big personality she is very funny and sweet just like her sister."

"I had always dreamed of being a mum but I wasn't sure I'd get the chance."

"Now it is here I feel very fulfilled, very lucky and blessed."

"I know a lot of people don't have the outcome we had."
