As the winter season comes to an end, the grizzly bears at the Oakland Zoo are starting to emerge from their winter slumbers. In a recent video published by the zoo, a playful grizzly bear can be seen swimming in the water, providing a close-up view to the camera.

Isabella Linares, the Marketing Manager of the Conservation Society of California at the Oakland Zoo, shared insights about the bears' waking process. She emphasized that unlike hibernation, torpor is a voluntary survival tactic that various species go through to avoid winter conditions. As the bears transition out of the colder months, they experience an increase in metabolic rates, fueling their spring feasting and fun.
