STORYLINE:
STANDUP 1 (English): ZHENG XIN, Xinhua correspondent
"Flower-shaped wind turbines, solar panels on both rooftops and ground, and even zero-carbon coffee...Green practices are almost everywhere in an almost zero emissions demonstration zone in Boao, a coastal town in China's southernmost province of Hainan. This year's Boao Forum for Asia has become greener with green energy, green transportation, green products and green recycling. Join us to discover how the green and low-carbon lifestyle here pilots China's green development."
Covering an area of around 1.9 square kilometers, the demonstration zone makes good use of local wind, sunshine and heat resources.
STANDUP 2 (English): ZHENG XIN, Xinhua correspondent
"These ground tiles in front of me are actually solar panels. This year, all the event venues are powered by green electricity."
The demonstration zone can achieve a balance between new energy power generation and consumption.
SOUNDBITE (English): ZHENG XIN, Xinhua correspondent
"Are the charging stations on the island adequate for all the electric cars?"
SOUNDBITE (English): YAN LIANG, Head of CHN Energy Boao PV Power Station
"We have installed a total of 195 charging piles in 6 parking lots on the island. Our charging piles mainly rely on electricity generated by photovoltaic panels, with sunlight converted into electricity, and then electricity is supplied to the charging piles, which ensures the provision of green electricity."
STANDUP 3 (English): ZHENG XIN, Xinhua correspondent
"Generated by green electricity, robot-made coffee for event participants is a zero-carbon product. And its cup is also recyclable."
SOUNDBITE (English): YANG LIYUAN, Deputy director of COSCO Shipping Boao Co., Ltd.
"All of our robotic equipment uses PV-generated energy, and our coffee beans are carbon-neutral certified. Every cup we use for making coffee will also be recycled in our Low Carbon Magic Cube, so the entire process showcases a scenario of nearly zero-carbon living."
STANDUP 4 (English): ZHENG XIN, Xinhua correspondent
"The view you see is built up by recycled materials."
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): HU YAOWEN, Director of Hainan Branch, China Academy of Urban Planning and Design
"The reuse of waste materials is in itself a carbon reduction practice. You can see that the gabions under those benches and chairs are also a form of reusing waste materials. On the one hand, we can reduce the carbon emissions generated during waste disposal. On the other hand, we can also reduce the emissions in making new construction materials. It's a reflection of the recycling, energy-saving and carbon-reducing concept."
STANDUP 5 (English): ZHENG XIN, Xinhua correspondent
"These green events are an epitome of the green development in Hainan. The province is building itself into a national pilot zone for ecological civilization that showcases China's green development."
SOUNDBITE (English): CARL FEY, Professor of Strategy at BI Norwegian Business School, Visiting scholar at Boao Forum
"This should be really important to countries like China, particularly here in Hainan, where as you know we now have a zone, especially focused on green technologies. I don't think I could have anticipated how much effort the Chinese people and the Chinese government would put in the green transformation. It's really been amazing."
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): HU YAOWEN, Director of Hainan Branch, China Academy of Urban Planning and Design
"The success in this zone has accumulated experience for the world in green and low-carbon development, contributing China's wisdom."
