In a bold demonstration against marine mammal captivity, 52-year-old Carolina Roberts and another animal rights activist were arrested and forcibly removed from San Diego International Airport this morning. The duo had staged a peaceful protest on a baggage carousel, adorned only in black-and-white body paint and shackles, urging the public to boycott SeaWorld, where an orca named Corky remains imprisoned.

Roberts, a San Diego resident, joined forces with PETA supporters who gathered at the airport armed with signs reading "Boycott SeaWorld." Together, they chanted and marched through the terminal, drawing attention to the plight of Corky and other marine animals held in captivity.

Corky, captured off the coast of British Columbia in 1969, holds the unfortunate distinction of being the longest-held captive orca in the world. Used for breeding purposes for years, none of her calves survived past 47 days. Her last pregnancy ended tragically in a miscarriage, highlighting the grim reality of captivity for marine mammals.

SeaWorld's track record with captive orcas and other marine animals has come under intense scrutiny, with over 40 orcas and 500 dolphins and whales dying prematurely in its tanks. Despite decades of advocacy and public outcry, Corky remains confined, separated from her natural habitat and family pod.
