At least two people were reported to have died due to rain-triggered floods in eastern Uganda, with hundreds being displaced and their properties destroyed, according to local authorities.

The authorities in eastern Uganda have started resettling the displaced ones after the rains.

An 11-year-old boy remains unaccounted for after he was washed away in the flood incurred by heavy rains that pounded Butaleja District in eastern Uganda, according to locals.

Meanwhile, six children were reported injured following heavy flooding.

Heavy rains through Thursday and Friday swelled the Nakwasi River and Manafwa River, with floodwaters spilling into communities along the rivers.

Hundreds were displaced by the floods, while schools in the area closed after classrooms were submerged.

"Over 500 people have been displaced. They are not having where to sleep. And from the other side, I was requesting their neighbors and their relatives to take care of them as water normalizes," said Hamila Yunus, a local official.

The authorities said they had put up temporary camps at one primary school to accommodate displaced families.

According to the Uganda National Meteorological Authority, rainfall in April will be higher than that recorded in March.
