A schoolgirl showed off her impressive weaving skills with an ancient wooden frame.

Eight-year-old Andrea Claro is the youngest weaver of traditional fabrics, locally called ‘inabel', in Ilocos Norte province, the Philippines.

Footage shows Andrea fixing the colourful cotton strings and pushing and pulling the loom to make the patterns on April 15.

Andrea learned the trade from her grandmother and village elders who also showed how she used the machine to make the fabrics, which are then used for traditional Filipina dresses.

Onlooker Arevhien Karl Fernandez said: 'She is a grade 2 pupil from Barangay Lumbaan-Bicbica, Pinili, Ilocos Norte. She is the youngest inabel weaver in the town.

'She was trained by Magdalena Galinato Gamayo, the NCCA's Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) awardee.'

The NCCA, or the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, is the policy-making body, coordinating, and grants-giving agency for the preservation, development and promotion of Philippine arts and culture.
