Rescue volunteers removed a harpoon piercing a hapless pet dog's head in Thailand.

Footage shows the one-year-old female dog named Tao Hoo walking around with the metal projectile skewering its head in Bueng Kan on April 19.

Her owner Montakan Chaonsri immediately called animal rescuers fearing Tao Hoo might be infected if the harpoon was not removed.

Livestock officers later arrived and sawed off the sharp object before pulling it out while the well-behaved dog sat still.

Montakan said: 'In the morning, my grandmother returned from paying the electricity bill and saw Tao Hoo approaching her silently.

'Tao Hoo followed her around as if asking for help to remove the harpoon.

'I don't know where my pet was shot because she usually stayed inside or around the house. I also don't know who would shoot her.

'After the harpoon was removed, the livestock officers then treated Tao Hoo's wound and injected medicine. They said they will be making regular visits to check on her condition.'
