"This is the maternity ward. After these newborns are born, we come here every day to check on their conditions. If there are any critically ill newborns, we will transfer them to the neonatal unit.
The Port Moresby General Hospital is one of Papua New Guinea's most prestigious hospitals, but its neonatal unit is equipped with outdated facilities and short of medical staff and medication.
There was no professional ventilator, no newborn incubator, short of infusion pumps, no standardized diagnosis and treatment procedures.
In order to change this situation, Chongqing Municipality donated the first professional ventilator to the neonatal unit there.
We held the first neonatal respiratory support technology training course in Papua New Guinea to help pediatric medical workers here master the skills. Four sessions have been held so far, and over 100 medical personnel have been trained, basically covering the whole country."
