Six-month-old baby dies from heat stroke as heat wave grips the Philippines
A six-month-old baby died from heat stroke as record high temperatures gripped the Philippines.
Baby boy Dwyne Lucas Bilugan Lucy had been on a swimming trip with family to celebrate his grandfather's birthday before he unexpectedly died the next day in Cavite, the Philippines on April 20.
Dwyne Lucas' mum Hanna said: ‘Heat stroke is not a joke. I hope other parents will be aware of it. We don't know how to move on from here. He was gone too young.'
Compilation footage shows the healthy baby who suddenly died as the country and the neighbouring Southeast Asian nations endured record-setting heat waves.
Hanna said in a message to her departed son: ‘We loved you dearly, papa and I. Thank you for the six months I got to be with you and the beautiful memories you left me. You are my forever baby.
‘It's hard, it hurts to accept, but I will endure for you, my child. You were my life, the one who made me happy every single day.
‘From the moment I woke up in the morning, you were the first one I would see. It hurts so much, it feels so new since you left me, since you were gone, so much has changed.'
Large parts of Southeast Asia have seen high temperatures in recent weeks. In the Philippines schools have been closed, power grids are struggling, and many people are getting sick or dying from the extreme heat.
In Manila, the temperature soared to 38.8 degrees Celsius (101.84 degrees Fahrenheit) least week, surpassing the record set decades ago.
