Sana'a, Yemen - May 3, 2024

Yemen's Houthis issued a strong warning on Friday. According to Yahya Sarea, the group's military spokesman, all ships heading towards Israel in any area of the Mediterranean Sea within reach will be attacked.

This will extend the Shi'ite rebels' operations against maritime traffic beyond their activities in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. "The Yemeni armed forces (Houthi rebels) announce that they will attack all ships that violate the anti-Israeli naval blockade and head towards the ports of occupied Palestine in the Mediterranean in any area within our reach," Sarea explained.

He made it clear that the provision "will begin immediately after its announcement". The remarks were made during a speech in Yemen's capital, Sana'a, amid a pro-Palestinian demonstration.
"In the event that the Israeli enemy continues with an aggressive military operation in Rafah, the Houthis will impose comprehensive sanctions on all ships belonging to companies involved in supplying and entering occupied Palestinian ports, regardless of their nationality," he said.
