STORYLINE:
A container ship departed from north China's Tianjin Port on Monday, marking the opening of a new direct shipping route between Tianjin and the east coast of South America.
The route is operated by China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited (COSCO Shipping), one of the largest shipping enterprises in the world.
COSCO Shipping will deploy 12 vessels to the weekly route. Each ship has a capacity of 14,000 standard containers.
The new route connects Tianjin with various ports in Brazil. It is expected to shorten shipping time between Tianjin and Brazil from 54 days to 40 days.
