Locals hunt bullfrogs to eat as monsoon rainy season arrives in Thailand
Locals have started hunting bullfrogs to eat as the monsoon rainy season arrives in Thailand.
Footage shows hundreds of bullfrogs - a local delicacy - in large basins displayed at a market stall in Nakhon Ratchasima province on May 9.
The frog hunting season begins in May when they are abundant following the arrival of torrential rain storms.
After being caught by dozens, they are sold alive by the kilogram or grilled in skewers.
Bullfrog merchant Rungthong Kaewsri, 32, said: 'With the recent rains, bullfrogs have been coming out of the forest in abundance, providing locals with a good income opportunity.
'Bullfrogs without eggs can fetch between 280 and 300 baht (6.08 and 6.51 GBP) per kilogram, while those with eggs go for 380 to 400 baht (8.25 and 8.68 GBP) and per kilogram.
'Grilled bullfrogs, depending on size, are priced starting from 50 baht (1.09 GBP) or 100 baht (1.09 GBP) if they have eggs.
'We've been seeing a lot of customers, resulting in earnings ranging from several thousand to over ten thousand baht per day.
'However, we can only capture them until around the end of May.'
