Terrified passengers are evacuated from an airport as an earthquake hits the Philippines this morning.

Footage shows the chaotic scenes at the Davao International Airport, serving the Davao Region on the island of Mindanao in the south of the country.

State seismology agency PHIVOLCS reported that the magnitude 7.5 offshore earthquake struck 44 kilometres (27 miles) northeast of Manay town in Davao Oriental province at 9:43 am local time. It was recorded offshore at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles).

Intensity V was felt in the commercial centre of Davao City, while Intensity IV was felt in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

Officials at PHIVOLCS warned that aftershocks were expected. There was also a tsunami warning issued, with large waves expected across the region, including in neighbouring Indonesia.

Residents in coastal areas were advised to immediately evacuate as the agency issued a tsunami warning.

PHIVOLCS said: 'Based on the local tsunami scenario database, it is expected to experience wave heights of more than one meter above the normal tides and may be higher on enclosed bays and straits.

'It is forecasted that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 09:43:54 to 11:43:54, 10 Oct 2025 (PST). These waves may continue for hours.'

It is the second major tremor to hit the country. Last week, another deadly earthquake killed at least 74 people in Cebu province, central Philippines.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes happen.
