Commuters were seen piling into train carriages as a storm caused chaos in Mumbai, India, on Monday afternoon May 13.

Footage shows the situation at the city's Thane station, with locals pushing and shoving while climbing over each other for a place in the passenger vehicle.

It came as violent storms wreaked havoc across the city, with a billboard blowing over and landing on dozens of people sheltering in a petrol station. At least 14 were killed in the tragedy.

Forecasters at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai said the downpour was the first of this year's monsoon rainy season.

They issued a 'nowcast warning' predicting a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and moderate to intense spells of rain for Thane, Palghar and Mumbai.
