"Transsexuality is not a illnes" Protesters gather in front of Peru's Ministry of Health to demand the repeal of the bill the classifies Transexuality as a mental illness
Hundreds of demonstrators held a sit-in outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Health of Peru, demanding the repeal of the Supreme Decree that classifies transgender individuals as having mental illnesses.
"My identity is not an illness!" "Mental health is not built on stigma," and "TRANSgressive State" are just some of the slogans shouted by protesters from various LGBT+ organizations.
The Ministry of Health classified "Transsexualism" and "Gender Identity Disorder" as mental illnesses through Supreme Decree 009-2024-SA, based on the ICD-10 diagnostic manual, which has been discontinued and replaced by the ICD-11.
