Storyline:
Israel's blockade on land traffic by preventing the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the besieged Gaza Strip will have further disastrous consequences for the traumatized Palestinians, said UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths on Sunday.

Israeli forces are continuing their battles in Jabalia in northern Gaza, while in the south, Hamas is fighting Israeli tanks massing around Rafah.

Due to ongoing conflicts near the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings in southern Gaza, the land routes for delivering aid to the southern enclave have been blocked, he said, adding that is undoubtedly a disaster for the large number of displaced Gazans.

The floating dock off Gaza for aid deliveries constructed by the U.S. military in cooperation with Israeli authorities was successfully anchored on May 16, and Griffiths said maritime operation is bringing in some aid, but still stressed that it is no replacement for land routes.

Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, also reiterated that land routes are the most viable, effective and efficient aid delivery method, which is why all crossing points should be opened.
