Wirksworth wheelbarrow pub race between six pubs, each contestant has to drink 1/2 pint of beer at each pub & swap between pusher & rider.

Pubs: Limekiln, The Royal Oak, The Red Lion Hotel / Feather Star, Wheatsheaf, Hope and Anchor, Quarryman.

2024 winners: Lawrence Wright & Miles Wright.

The rules are:

Saturday 25th May 2024 at 7.30pm

Wirksworths biggest sporting event of the year is taking place tonight through the streets of the town.
It’s been 5 years since the last race so let’s all get up town and support the event.

Racers
1. Before the race Collect
Your race number from the desk on the Old Market Place outside 9 Barbers.

2. Be aware
On the downhill section between La mistral and Ken’s there’s a large pot hole right outside Skopa on the race line.

3. Top tip
Setting off from the Featherstar it’s best to have the heavier team member pushing rather than riding.

4. Warning
Remember, the event is an endurance beer drinking competition and not a wet T-shirt contest, if you rock up at the finish with beer all down yourself don’t be disappointed when your team doesn’t figure in the result, same applies if the referees see any beer spitting or tipping at the pubs.

5. Please.
If you’re thinking about vomiting at the end of race we’ve got some buckets for you to use, don’t puke in any doorways or on any doorsteps, it’s very rude.

6. Spectators
This is a fun event to watch and it draws a large crowd, and we need to keep the course clear throughout the race and especially between the Hope & Anchor and the Quarryman.
If you have any young children with you keep them close to you at all times.
And remember the top of the Market Place is where the throwing-up takes place at the end of the race.

7 Publicans.
You are all amazing, thank you once again for donating all the beer for this year’s race, you are the best, and we hope you all have a great night.

Original filmed in 4K.
