This is China's largest water port for coal, handling over 200 million tons of coal a year.

"Right over there is the stacker. The belt next to us transports coal to the stacker to store the coal in the yard. Data on the stacking point and height will be sent back to our servers. The server will calculate the data and share it with the reclaimer when the coal is being moved for shipment."

Moving coal is often associated with dust and waste water - two major pollutants.

At this port, special measures are in place to eliminate coal's carbon footprint during transport.

"Right now, the wind feels like a moderate level four-to-five. But we are not really seeing much dust."

When the coal reaches the port by rail, one measure to elimitate dust is by spraying water droplets onto the coal while the tippler turns the wagon and pours it into storage.

The white gas we are seeing is what's known as dry fog.

"Dry fog is compressed air and water to create micron sized droplets. Droplets between 1 to 10 micrometers work the best. The droplets adsorb the dust so that dust will fall instead of escaping into the air."

It's said the technology can eliminate 95 percent of the dust from coal during transport.

A water recycling system is also installed to collect and filter waste water, rain and ballast water.

China's coal reserves are mainly located in the country's northern and western regions, yet coal consumption happens mostly in the east and south.

Ports like these are crucial to integrating rail and sea transport, so as to distribute coal, with the aim of keeping pollution and waste to a minimum.

Huanghua Port has announced new expansion plans to increase its handling capacity by over 20 percent.

With the help of modern technology and innovation, it's working towards achieving zero carbon emissions during the transport of coal.
