Teen breaks WRCA world record in classic Chinese puzzle game
A 16-year-old boy, Liao Junyue, has successfully broken the WRCA world record for the fastest completion of the "4×5 Huarong Road" puzzle, with a time of 0.979 seconds.
The impressive video was filmed in Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province on May 12.
Liao surpassed the previous record set by a Malaysian prodigy and showcased remarkable talent on the international stage.
Huarong Road is a classic puzzle game originating from one of China's Four Great Classical Novels, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". Players must move pieces to guide the target from the initial position to the centre bottom of the board. The "Five Passes" layout consists of 48 steps, requiring Liao to stop the timer within one second after completing all steps.
Liao remarked that the characters of Cao Cao, Guan Yu, and others depicted on the Huarong Road pieces symbolise Chinese culture and are part of its traditional essence. His deep understanding of this culture has enhanced his proficiency in the game, allowing him to demonstrate unique insights. His mastery of the game's rules and techniques enables him to effortlessly achieve outstanding results during daily practice sessions.
"His talent, speed, and explosive power are exceptional," commented Liao's mentor, Ye Jiaxi. Liao's strong inner drive pushes him to push the limits with various puzzle toys like Rubik's Cube, Huarong Road, and Luban Lock, which is why he was trained to break the world record for the "Three Kingdoms Huarong Road".
Upon receiving certification, Liao expressed his joy, stating, "I am very proud to keep the world record in China. Next, I will continue to focus on my studies and strive for admission to my ideal university. Meanwhile, I will work hard to become an outstanding mentor in Huarong Road competitions, hoping to train more world record holders and keep more world records in China."
