U.S. Marines joined tortoise conservation efforts in Twentynine Palms, California, on June 5.

The troops were joined by civilians at the Tortoise Research and Captive Rearing Site (TRACRS) located within the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center.

Officials said the purpose of their visit was to observe the mission of TRACRS, which focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and relocating endangered species, particularly the desert tortoise.

Managed by the MCAGCC Environmental Affairs directorate, the TRACRS facility operates in conjunction with the Head Start Program. They said the initiative underscores the Marine Corps' dedication to environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation.
