This is the astonishing moment a stressed Thai lawyer whose life savings were stolen by fraudsters poured faeces over himself in a protest outside the bank.

Legal professional Nop Sukhapirom fell victim to a call centre scam that allowed the thieves to steal more than 1.2 million THB (25,700 GBP) from his current account at the banking giant Kasikorn.

Distressed over the bank's alleged inaction, and with no consumer rights champions in the country's media, Nop then staged a protest in front of the building in Ratchaburi, Thailand, on June 4, demanding that the bank reveal the details of where his money was sent.

Footage shows Nop, seen in the video in a red dress shirt, arguing with Police Sub-Lieutenant Wichian Maneewihok of the Mueang Ratchaburi Police Station as he threatened to douse himself with a canister full of excrement he had collected that morning from a portaloo.

Nop refused to calm down and lifted the container to dump the watery mess onto himself.

The policeman, who was hit by splashes of faeces, was later seen arguing with the bank's security guards for allegedly locking the doors and merely watching the incident unfold.

Meanwhile, Nop said that his ordeal started when he received a call from a private transport company asking him to pay 1,000 THB to compensate for damaged legal documents for a client in Surin province.

Believing it was related to a case he was handling in Surin, Nop agreed to pay and provided his bank account details to the suspected scammers.

He also clicked on a link they had sent, which emptied his entire bank account of his savings.

Nop said: 'Upon realising I had been scammed, I filed a report at Mueang Ratchaburi Police Station, and the officers urgently contacted the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau to freeze the recipient's account.

'The police and I requested the transaction details from the bank to investigate the recipient's account. However, the bank refused citing client confidentiality. I feel disappointed and betrayed because I have been a long-time customer of this bank.'

Nop said he will return to protest next week and threatened to commit suicide if the bank remains uncooperative.

Semi-developed Thailand has a powerful banking industry that lacks the regulations and protections against fraud - such as blocks on unusual transitions - that are used in the United Kingdom.
