At least 15 spectators were injured when a tractor crashed into the crowd during a race in India.

The farm vehicle was racing against another machine when it lost control on the dusty ground in the village of Domeli in Phagwara, Punjab, on Saturday afternoon.

Onlookers leapt away from the crash as a cloud of dust filled the area of the crash. Several locals were flung into the air by the impact.

Spectator Ratan Singh said the tractor veered off course before hitting the crowd and injuring him and his friend.

Officials said 15 people were injured. Ten of them were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said they have detained four people and impounded three tractors.

Concerns have been raised about the lack of intervention from local authorities, especially since the race took place in broad daylight.
