"Here I am close to the breached dike of Dongting Lake in central China's Hunan Province. Emergency work has been underway to close the dike breach caused by flooding at China's second-biggest freshwater lake. Water levels inside and outside the breach are flush and the water flow slowed down over the weekend. According to a press conference held by the Hunan provincial government on Sunday afternoon, the breached dike is expected to be repaired by noon on Tuesday."
The dike burst at 5:48 p.m. on Friday in Tuanzhou Township, Huarong County in Hunan Province, causing flooding in the area. The breach was initially about 10 meters wide but later expanded.
According to the Yueyang flood control and drought relief headquarters, as of Sunday noon, 75 meters of the 226-meter breach in the dike had been sealed.
