A pet tortoise was spotted sunbathing with limbs stretched out in northern China.

The funny moment was filmed in Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province on July 8.

Ms. Wang, the pet owner, shared that she stumbled upon the scene unexpectedly. Her tortoise, a family member for nearly seven years, was sprawled out on the sunlit floor with all four limbs fully extended and its head slightly raised, as if enjoying a luxurious sunbath.

Intrigued and amused by the unusual behaviour, she quickly took out her phone to document the moment.

Animal experts explain that tortoise, being cold-blooded creatures, require sunlight to regulate their body temperature and boost their metabolism. During sunbathing, turtles extend their limbs to absorb as much heat as possible, a behaviour that is entirely normal and vital for their health.
