STORYLINE:

A U.S. youth delegation wrapped up their journey in China and returned to the U.S. from Shanghai on Saturday.

The "Shared Journey of Friendship" U.S. Youth Exchange Delegation, consisting of nearly 190 teachers and students from 14 schools across seven states, had visited several Chinese cities and arrived in Shanghai on Wednesday.

While in Shanghai, the group explored the city's urban landscape and engaged in in-depth exchanges with their Chinese peers through various activities.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ANNA SCHRAMM, Student of Tacoma Public Schools, U.S.
"I really enjoyed all of the days where we got to partner up with high school students and just get to know each other, and see what life is like for people on the other side of the globe."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JACOB DAVID SANDERS, Student of Lincoln High School, U.S.
"I really enjoyed it, it was a great experience. The school that we went to in the first place was a great experience. I feel very welcome in China in general, but definitely in Shanghai, it's one of the best places I've visited."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): HIGGINS KAINOA, Head of College of Industrial Design, Engineering and Art, Tacoma Public Schools, U.S.
"The whole trip I think, it's been a whirlwind tour in many ways, and I think students are excited to see families, but also very sad to end the adventure, which has been so enriching in so many ways."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): LYNN KAREN EISENHAUER, Teacher of Lincoln High School, U.S.
"It's so important for them to meet each other personally and not have their ideas about each other come from other people, but from their own experiences. There is so much that students have in common and I think we all need for them to understand that, they need to work together to solve the problems in our world. So that is my hope for our visits."
