This is the incredible moment a mother elephant and her baby tiptoed together along a steep riverbank.

Adison Noppha watched the jumbos crossing the sides of the Ratchaprapa Dam in Surat Thani Province, Thailand, on July 13.

Footage shows the female jumbo carefully manoeuvring the slippery ground with her calf following closely behind.

At one point, the calf nearly slipped into the river when it accidentally stepped on unstable soil.

Fortunately, it regained its footing and continued forward.

They successfully crossed the riverbank and headed towards the forest.

The scene left onlookers shocked and worried that the elephants might accidentally fall into the water.

Adison said: 'It was thrilling, and we were all rooting for them to safely make it out of the riverbank.'

Elephants are protected species in Thailand, where they roam freely through forests. There are believed to be up to 3,500 elephants in the wild.

The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
