A new-born elephant calf was rescued by forest officials in the Kalatamak Tungur Reserve Forest of India on February 10.

The calf's mother left the baby elephant alone with a herd of six elephants. The calf could not walk because he could not go with the elephant and fell ill.

After learning of the situation, the Bishoi Forest Department monitored the calf’s movements and health, and the baby elephant was rescued and brought to the Bishoi Range Office. After communication, a STR rescue team along with a medical team from Baripada also reached the Bishoi Range office, where the calf is currently being treated.

An elephant calf has been born in the Kalatamak Tungur Reserve Forest under the Sargada Forest Beet in the Bishoi Range of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. Mother elephant left her calf and not returned. We were staying there whole night and eat lactogen. At last I have been informed to DFO. DFO ordered me to brought the new born calf to Bishoi range office premises for better treatment. We brought the calf to Bishoi range and started treatment. Now need antibiotics which is available at Baripada. A team with doctor came here for his better treatment.I am thinking that calf will be cure soon said Pradeep Kumar Sethi, Range officer.
