A quick-thinking 12-year-old boy on an electric bike flung himself to the ground to avoid crashing into a lorry that ran a red light.

The incident occurred in Shizuishan City in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China, on Thursday, July 4.

The driver of the heavy-duty semi-trailer, named Mr Ma, was travelling along Provincial Highway 302 when he approached a zebra crossing on a community road.

Instead of slowing down, Ma deliberately ran a red light.

Young Xiao Su, who was riding an electric motorcycle at the intersection, had to abruptly stop to avoid being hit by the lorry.

He deliberately fell to the ground, and his motorbike slid under the semi-trailer and was crushed.

Despite the terrifying situation, Xiao was fortunate to have only suffered minor scrapes.

After a thorough investigation, it was found that Ma was at fault for running the red light and causing the accident.

Police said that Xiao, being under 16 years old and riding an electric bike on the road, also shared some responsibility for the incident.
