Powerful sandstorm turns sky yellow, significantly reducing visibility in northwestern China
A powerful sandstorm turned the sky a murky yellow, significantly reducing visibility in northwestern China.
The video was filmed in Dunhuang City in Gansu Province on July 19.
Strong winds carried sand through the air, reducing visibility to less than 100 metres. The harsh weather conditions made travel extremely challenging, causing significant traffic congestion and slowdowns on several roads.
The sandstorm severely impacted air quality, filling the air with a dense dust aroma. Residents were advised to close their windows and limit outdoor activities.
Tourist sites in Dunhuang were also affected. The popular Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring Scenic Area was temporarily closed due to the severe sand and extremely low visibility, ensuring visitor safety.
Additionally, highway police implemented temporary traffic controls on some routes to maintain safe passage for vehicles.
