A classroom wall collapsed injuring six schoolchildren in India.

The pupils were eating their lunch at dinner break when the structure gave way at the Shree Narayan Vidhyalay, a trust-run school on Waghodiya Road in Vadodara, India.

CCTV shows the seventh-grade children along with their desks and chairs tumbling from the second floor onto the hard ground below.

Officials said six injured students were given first aid before being taken to the local hospital for treatment. None of them were reportedly seriously hurt in the incident on July 19.

Senior primary school teacher Rupal Shah said that he heard a noise in the office and ran outside with other staff members.

He said that student Dhairya Suthar sustained minor injuries and received medical attention before being released to his parents.

A school trustee stated that the structure, built in 2001, did not require repairs. They said the structure had all necessary licenses and permits, including certificates for structural integrity and building authorisation,

However, a neighbouring staff member expressed concerns about the building's maintenance, noting cracks that had been brought to the school's attention.

Neighbours reported that the school had only performed cosmetic repairs such as painting and plastering the exterior.

Police said they have launched an investigation to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff at Shree Narayan Vidhyalay.
