Lima, Peru - July 29, 2024

Storyline:
For the first time, a formation of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China made an appearance in a parade marking the independence of Peru, the 203rd of its kind, held in the South American country's capital Lima Monday.

The parade was held in Lima's Brazil Avenue, along which 42 spectator's grandstands with 18,000 seats were installed. The spectator's grandstands were painted into white and red, the main colors of the Peruvian national flag.

Over 6,000 personnel from the army, navy, air force of Peru and related institutes like Peruvian National Police were inspected.

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte arrived at the scene at about 10:20. Formation marching began after gun salutes were fired and the Peruvian national anthem was aired and sung along.

At the invitation of the Ministry of Defense of Peru, a formation made up by seven student representatives from the Dalian Naval Academy of the PLA attended the parade.

With the Chinese national flag being held up high, the Chinese formation marched in a parade step to receive the review.

On July 28, 1821, Peru officially declared independence from the Spanish colonial rule, and parade celebrating the country's independence is held annually in Lima.
