This is the stomach-churning moment customers find deadly fungus in pastries bought from a cafe in India.

Dr Avinash Kumar Tiwari purchased six patties filled with cheese, potatoes, and surprise mould from a popular restaurant called Annapurna Sweet House and Bakers in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on August 1.

Footage shows the man revealing the insides of the food and demanding an explanation from the worker.

The staff attempted to de-escalate the issue by offering to replace the patties, but the disgusted consumer contacted a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officer to file a complaint.

The commotion intrigued the family sitting next to the complainant's table, who asked what was wrong with the food.

Upon seeing the mould, the diners were shocked.

Additionally, Dr Avinash alleged that one patty contained saliva.

He said: 'It is important to lodge a complaint and hold the restaurant accountable for their errors, and make sure they face the consequences of their actions and negligence.

'I refused any offers from the establishment and instead took action, so they won't repeat these mistakes.'

Consuming a large quantity of mold may result in nausea or stomach upset. Occasionally it can be fatal.
